Can You Still Make Money Selling eBooks in 2026?
A few years ago, selling an eBook online was relatively easy. You could create a simple PDF, design a decent-looking cover, upload it to a marketplace, and start earning money. But things have changed dramatically.
With the rise of AI tools, almost anyone can generate a complete eBook in just a few minutes. As a result, competition has increased significantly. That made me wonder:
Can you still make money selling eBooks online in 2026?
To find the answer, I decided to run my own experiment instead of relying on assumptions or fake success stories. I wanted to test the entire process from start to finish using AI.
I created an eBook with the help of AI, built a professional landing page, listed the product online, and tried different marketing strategies to bring real traffic.
Before we begin, let me make one thing very clear. I’m not going to tell you that you can earn thousands of dollars overnight by selling eBooks. I’m not going to show fake screenshots or unrealistic income claims.
I’ll only show real results. If I make a profit, I’ll show the profit. If I lose money, I’ll show the loss. Everything in this experiment is based on real-life experience because I invested my own time, effort, and money to find out whether eBook selling still works in 2026.
So, let’s get started.
Step 1: Find a Profitable eBook Idea Using AI
The first step is to visit Claude AI and give it a well-structured prompt. I’ve already prepared a complete prompt file, which you can find in the video description.
The prompt simply asks Claude to act as a professional digital product researcher and market analyst.
Why is this important?
Because before creating any digital product, you need to find an idea and validate whether it actually has market demand.
You should never create an eBook just because you think it’s a good idea. Instead, you need to know:
- Is there real demand?
- Is the topic searchable?
- How much competition exists?
- Can people actually make money with this niche?
- Will customers be willing to pay for it?
These are the questions AI helps answer before you spend time creating your product.
Generating 10 Profitable eBook Ideas
Using the prepared prompt, I asked Claude AI to generate ten profitable eBook ideas specifically for the US market.
You can use exactly the same prompt with ChatGPT as well. However, in my experience, Claude provides more accurate market research for this type of task.
After a short wait, Claude completed its web research and generated a detailed report.
Instead of simply giving random ideas, it created a complete market research report that included:
- Market demand
- Competition level
- Recommended selling price
- Target audience
- Problems the eBook solves
- Why customers would pay
- Best platform to sell it
- YouTube marketing angle
This saved a huge amount of research time.
One of the Best eBook Ideas: AI Workflow Playbook for Real Estate Agents
The first recommendation from Claude AI was an eBook called:
AI Workflow Playbook for Real Estate Agents
According to the research, this niche has extremely high demand in the US market while facing relatively low competition.
The eBook would teach real estate professionals how to use AI tools to:
- Close more deals
- Write property listings faster
- Automate client follow-ups
- Create marketing content
- Save hours of administrative work
The suggested target audience included:
- Licensed real estate agents
- Property brokers
- New real estate professionals
Claude also explained the biggest pain point.
Most real estate agents spend too much time writing listings, sending emails, following up with clients, and organizing leads instead of focusing on closing deals.
If an AI-powered workflow helps them close even one additional property sale, the return on investment becomes enormous. That’s exactly why buyers would be willing to purchase the eBook.
Claude recommended selling this digital product on Gumroad or through a personal website with a professional landing page.
It also suggested pricing the eBook between $19 and $27.
Another High-Demand Niche
The second recommendation focused on Personal Finance for Gig Workers and Freelancers.
This niche has medium competition but extremely high demand.
Again, Claude explained everything, including:
- Who the audience is
- Why they would buy
- Their biggest financial problems
- Suggested pricing
- The overall market opportunity
This is why market validation is so important.
Before creating any digital product, you should understand:
- How much demand exists
- How competitive the niche is
- What problem you’re solving
- Why someone would pay for your solution
By doing all this research automatically, Claude AI completes nearly 30% of your work before you even begin writing the eBook.
Validate Your Own Idea
If you already have an eBook idea in mind, you don’t have to use Claude’s suggestions.
Simply tell Claude:
“My idea is this. Analyze whether it will work in today’s market. Show me the demand, competition, monetization opportunities, customer pain points, and explain why people would pay for it.”
Claude will provide a detailed market analysis so you can decide whether your idea is worth pursuing before investing time into creating the product.
One recommendation appeared repeatedly throughout the report:
Gumroad is one of the best platforms for selling eBooks and digital products.
Almost every profitable niche included Gumroad as the recommended marketplace because it allows creators to start selling quickly with minimal setup.
After reviewing all ten ideas, Claude also ranked them based on their potential.
One of the strongest trends for 2026 was productivity-focused content, especially topics designed for remote workers and professionals looking to improve efficiency.
However, I decided to move forward with the first idea—AI Workflow Playbook for Real Estate Agents—because it had an excellent combination of high demand and low competition.
With the idea finalized, it was finally time to create the actual eBook.
